Suggested Gospel: John 18:36-37
Prayer of the Day
Since the Daniel text is used on NL413 – the last and only time was in 2017 – my congregation will be using the Prayer of the Day supplied by Working Preacher in 2017.
God of fiery flames, even the most raging fire could not destroy your servants when they called upon you in faith. Give us faith to withstand anything that rages to deter us from following you.
Amen.
Prayers of the Church (traditional)
These prayers have been adapted from the prayers offered for the Narrative Lectionary readings on December 3, 2017, by Freed From, Freed For
Called out from the fire unharmed, let us pray for the needs of the church, the world, and all of God’s creation.
A brief silence.
Deliver your church, O God, from divisions that threaten to pull us apart, and bring us into a deeper relationship with you, uniting us with the wider church. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Redeem your creation, O God, from the abuse it has endured. Restore ecosystems to health and wholeness, so that all the world may know the goodness of all you have made. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Free your world, O God, from the devastation of war and conflict. Accompany those who are caught in the middle of situations that they cannot control. Let your peace surround us all. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Bring healing, O God, to those who suffer in body, mind, and spirit. Work through all those who bring healing to others, that all may see your love made known through them. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Bring all the faithful departed, O God, into your glorious presence. Keep us strong in our faith and joyful in our witness until that glorious day when we will share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
God our overcomer, we lift these and all our prayers to you, trusting that you will protect and deliver us from all that threatens to harm us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray in the name of the one who came to save us, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Prayers of the People (contemporary)
These prayers are based on the Prayers of the Church above.
Let us pray.
Called out from the fire unharmed, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
God, we long to grow closer to you. Bring us out of our comfort zones as we encounter you and your people in new places and spaces.
God, we long for peace, a desire that seems impossible to satisfy in this world full of conflict and division. Bring us together with those who think and act and look differently than we do as we cooperatively pursue unity in this broken world.
God, we long for healing for those who suffer in body, mind, and spirit. Fill their caregivers with wisdom and compassion, and surround their friends and family with patience and love. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
God our overcomer, we lift these and all our prayers to you, trusting that you will protect and deliver us from all that threatens to harm us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray in the name of the one who came to save us, Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
