Suggested Gospel: John 4:19-26
Prayer of the Day
Today’s reading from Daniel is also used in the Narrative Lectionary on NL313, so we will be using the prayer of the day for that Sunday as provided by Working Preacher. You can find those worship resources here.
Prayers of the Church (traditional)
The prayers of the church are based on those offered by Freed From, Freed For for Sunday, November 29, 2020, NL313.
We seek the mighty God in the most unlikely places. May God hear these prayers, which come from the unlikely corners of our lives.
A brief silence.
God, we pray that you deliver the church from hypocrisy, timidity, and judgmentalism. Grant us boldness of speech and action on behalf of the Gospel. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
God, we pray that you deliver creation from exploitation and destruction. Raise up advocates and protectors of the wild places of the world. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
God, we pray that you deliver the world from violence and injustice. Grant wisdom and compassion to all leaders of tribes and peoples and nations. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
God, we pray that you deliver those enduring illness and disease. Rain down your healing power upon all those who need it. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
God, we give you thanks for all those who have gone before us and whose lives have proven your great faithfulness and deliverance. Lord in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Receive our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, until that day when you gather all creation around your throne where you will reign forever and ever.
Amen.
Prayers of the People (contemporary)
These prayers are based on the Prayers of the Church above.
We come before the God we find in the most unlikely places as we pray for the church, the world, and all of God’s creation.
Empowering God, we like to think that we can easily and powerfully stand up for you and your church, but we just as easily can shrink into silence and inaction. Grant us boldness and confidence in our speech and our actions on behalf of the gospel.
Creator God, we pray for all that you have made and continue to make. Raise up advocates and protectors of our natural spaces and places.
Healing God, we pray for all who struggle in body, mind, and spirit. Surround them with your love and peace. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Receive our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, until that day when you gather all creation around your throne where you will reign forever and ever.
Amen.
