Prayer of the Day
Adapted from the Prayer of the Day provided by Working Preacher
Lord God, grand architect of the universe, your design of creation is unflawed. Yet we continue to litter your creation with defects and imperfections. Show us how not to destroy, but to create; how not to demean, but to uplift; how not to hate, but to love, so that your creation may be made perfect once again. Through your son, Jesus Christ, we pray.
Amen.
Prayers of the Church (traditional)
Influenced by the prayers from Clergy Stuff for NL301, 2020-21.
Together, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
A brief silence.
God of guidance, the things which are forbidden are often the most tempting, and we seem to love pursuing them. Redirect our lives, that we might choose instead a path of joy and freedom, and live in the grace which you have freely given us. God of compassion,
hear our prayer.
God of all generations, bless all grandparents — those who care for and love their children’s children, those who serve as surrogate elder mentors, and those who long for grandchildren but do not have any. Strengthen ties between generations that each might be blessed and enriched by the other. God of compassion,
hear our prayer.
Loving creator, you have given us this great garden of your creation to till and keep. May we resist the temptation to exploit and misuse it out of greed or possessiveness, choosing instead to cultivate its beauty and share its fruits equitably and justly. God of compassion,
hear our prayer.
Healing God, we ask for your strength and compassion to surround all those who struggle in body, mind, and spirit. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
God of compassion,
hear our prayer.
God of eternity, we give thanks for all those people in our lives who dwell with you now. As we find inspiration in their lives, encourage us to inspire others with our lives. God of compassion,
hear our prayer.
We lift all our prayers to you, gracious Lord, trusting in your boundless love for all that you have made, through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Amen.
Prayers of the People (contemporary)
adapted from the Prayers of the Church above
Let us pray.
Joined together in the body of Christ, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
God of guidance, too often we pursue the tempting and forbidden fruit like a dog chasing a squirrel. When we wander away, call us back to you, and show us the right path to follow.
God of all creation, you have entrusted us with the care of your great universe. May we resist the temptation to exploit the earth for selfish reasons. Guide us in the ways of stewardship and conservation, that we may someday leave the earth in good condition for those that come after us.
God of healing, we pray for all those who struggle in body, mindy, and spirit. Strengthen their spirits, encourage their friends and family, and grant wisdom to their medical teams. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
We lift all our prayers to you, gracious Lord, trusting in your boundless love for all that you have made, through Jesus Christ our Savior.
Amen.
