Prayer of the Day

Ascension is using the prayer of the day as provided by Working Preacher, with some adaptations.

Lord God, on the night of the Passover the sacrificed lamb became a sign of freedom and you freed the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. In Jesus, you freed all humanity from sin and death. Help us live into this new life, teaching us to serve you in faithfulness as you have served us. To you we offer our gratitude in the name of the one who turned slavery into new life, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen.

Prayers of the Church (traditional)

Our prayers of the church this week are an adaptation of those provided by Clergy Stuff in 2020-21.

Sustained by the gift we receive at your table, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

A brief silence.

God our promise, you claim us powerfully as your own and set your mark of mercy upon us in the promise of our baptism. May we respond in gratitude and truly live as redeemed and beloved children. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

God our protector, we pray for your comfort, healing and protection for innocent victims and those caught in the crossfire of conflict. Help all who deal with traumatic memories and difficult histories to find renewal and a way forward. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

God our creator, help us to cherish and protect the diverse and countless creatures which populate the earth, as well as the lands, seas and habitats in which they live. Guide us to take a responsible place as one species among many who share the planet. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

God our healer, be with those who struggle in body, mind, and spirit, and are in need of your Holy Spirit’s power. Surround them with your love and grace. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

God our comforter, we give thanks for all the saints who have gone before us and who now dine at your table in paradise. Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

We belong to you, O God our provider, and trust that you will answer our prayers in the way that fulfills your will, for the sake of your son Jesus, the Anointed One.
Amen.

Prayers of the People (contemporary)

Influenced by the Prayers of the Church above

Let us pray.

Sustained by the gift we receive at the table of the Lord, we lift our voices together in prayer for the church, the world, and all of God’s creation.

God our promise, you bring us into your family through the water and the word at baptism, and you continue to nourish us through Holy Communion. Through this truly awesome gift, continue to bring us together with your whole church throughout the world.

God our creator, you have made the world and all that exists, and you intended that all your creation would work together and live in harmony. But we take advantage of our natural resources. We abuse that which we are meant to care for. Guide us to live in harmony with all that moves upon the land, under the sea, and in the air.

God our healer, be with those who struggle in body, mindy, and spirit. Enfold them in your compassionate embrace. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?

We belong to you, O God our provider, and trust that you will answer our prayers in the way that fulfills your will, for the sake of your son Jesus, the Anointed One.
Amen.
