Prayer of the Day
At our Classic (traditional) worship service, Ascension will be using the prayer of the day provided by Working Preacher in 2024.
King of heaven and earth, as you cleansed Isaiah with a coal of fire to prepare him for proclaiming your word to the world, prepare us, so that we may know your bidding and carry out our callings with eagerness and urgency. Show the world greatness that cannot be contained any more than smoke or fire can be caught, in the name of the one who sacrificed everything to carry out your commands, Jesus Christ our sanctifier.
Amen.
At our Modern (contemporary) worship service, Ascension will be using the prayer of the day provided by Clergy Stuff in 2020-21.
Merciful God, you can make us clean in an instant. Grant us courage to leave the mistakes of our past behind, and to answer your call with willingness and eagerness, by the power of your Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Prayers of the Church (traditional)
Ascension is using the prayers for NL311 from 2020, provided by Clergy Stuff, adapted and updated
Called to serve God, one another, and the community, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.
As Isaiah did, we often doubt our ability to do what you are calling us to do. Cleanse us in your spirit’s fire and ignite our will to follow wherever you may lead us. Righteous God,
hear our prayer.
Empower all those who feel helpless to change their situation. Show them the strength that dwells within them, open new options before them, and send helpers along their way. Righteous God,
hear our prayer.
As the earth yields the fruits of her harvest, remind us who provides us with resources, and task us with fair distribution that enables all to have enough and prevents unnecessary waste. Righteous God,
hear our prayer.
You heal our ills and bring us to wholeness again; we only need to ask. Send your loving Spirit’s presence to all your children in need. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Righteous God,
hear our prayer.
We remember your prophets through the ages, those who are named and those who haven’t been recognized by history. Give us their fire for proclamation and spreading your good news. Righteous God,
hear our prayer.
You hear your children’s prayers and respond in ways which serve our highest good. Gather us in your arms and keep us in the love of Jesus our Savior.
Amen.
Prayers of the People (contemporary)
Influenced by the Prayers of the Church above.
Let us pray.
Called to serve and love God, one another, and the community, we pray for the church, the world, and all of God’s creation.
When we doubt our abilities and our suitability to live into that which you have called us to do, O God, give us the confidence to boldly respond to you.
When we feel lost and alone and don’t know what way to go, empower us and fill us with your strength and the Holy Spirit’s wisdom.
When we experience the effects of environmental change, motivate us to find ways to improve and better steward all of creation.
When we struggle in body, mind, and spirit, grant wisdom to our caregivers, and surround us with your compassion and love. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
We lift all our prayers to you, O God, and know that you are listening. We place our trust in you, through your son, Jesus Christ, our Savior.
Amen.
